Updates for the S&T community
The S&T community is saddened to learn Dr. Barbara Hale, professor emerita of physics, died Wednesday, Jan. 17, after a long illness. A memorial service will be held at noon Monday, Jan. 29, at the Hasselmann Alumni House. The service will be streamed on Zoom.
In 1969, Hale joined Missouri S&T as a visiting assistant professor of mathematics. In 1973, she became assistant professor of physics and a senior investigator in the Graduate Center for Cloud Physics Research. She was named associate professor of physics in 1977 and professor of physics in 1982.
In 2013, she was named Woman of the Year, and she served as the advisor for the Chi Omega sorority from the chapter’s founding in 1979 until her retirement in 2018.
Members of Missouri S&T Student Well-Being counseling staff are available to assist students affected by Dr. Hale’s passing.
