Towler advances hemostasis technology with patent

Dr. Mark Towler, the Linda and Bipin Doshi Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering, has licensed a granted patent to Desicorp, a company based in Louisville, Kentucky. Using Canadian Institutes of Health Research (CIHR) funds, Towler invented and developed a powdered substance that can be applied to halt bleed-out, or hemostasis, in patients.
This patent may lead to more development at Missouri S&T to make it the “go-to” hemostat for a range of applications, including trauma, military, and dental patients.
