Submit nominations for 2024 Goldwater Scholarship

Undergraduate education invites faculty members to nominate outstanding students for the Goldwater Scholarship. This opportunity is designed for students who have shown exceptional promise and intend to pursue research careers in mathematics, natural sciences or engineering.

Eligibility requirements for the Goldwater Scholarship:

  • Be a full-time matriculated sophomore or junior pursuing a degree at an accredited 2- or 4-year institution of higher education during the 2023-24 academic year.
  • Intend to pursue a research career in natural science, mathematics or engineering.
  • Have a college grade point average of at least a 3.0 on a 4.0 scale.
  • Be a U.S. citizen, a U.S. national or a permanent resident.

Nominations should consider students who:

  • Demonstrate a strong commitment to a career in science, mathematics or engineering.
  • Have outstanding potential for and commitment to a research career.
  • Have demonstrated substantial promise and improvement in academic performance.

The deadline to apply is Friday, Jan. 16.

Undergraduate education will host a workshop for students interested in the scholarship at 5 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 14, in Room 295 Toomey Hall. Students who attend will learn what the Goldwater Scholarship is, who qualifies and how to apply. The workshop will also offer essay writing tips and a Q&A session. Please encourage students to attend.
