Jill Tanner, director of digital marketing, has been named chief of staff for Missouri S&T and will begin her duties on Wednesday, Nov. 1.

“I have been impressed with Jill Tanner given her great due diligence and quality of her work,” says Mo Dehghani, chancellor of Missouri S&T. “She has diligently worked to elevate the university’s reputation through advertising and digital media. Jill is great at relationship building and possesses the tenacity, big-picture thinking and project management skills necessary for this role.” 

While in marketing and communications, Tanner has led the digital marketing team and collaborated with other departments to improve email marketing to prospective students as well as support faculty and student organizations by offering a website template through sites.mst.edu.

Tanner joined Missouri S&T in 2021 as the university’s first marketing strategist. In 2022, she was promoted to director of digital marketing. In June, she received an Outstanding Newcomer Award for employees who have made a positive impact in their first two years at the university.

Tanner started her career as an art director at Asgard Press for seven years, before becoming a digital strategist for Stealth Creative in 2017. She holds a bachelor’s degree in fine arts from Savannah College of Art and Design and is pursuing a master’s degree in information science and technology from Missouri S&T.

As chief of staff, Tanner will provide strategic support to the chancellor and oversee government relations activities in coordination with the University of Missouri System’s government relations team. She will manage administrative operations, coordinate communication and engagement with various stakeholders, and advocate for Missouri S&T’s interests at the local, state and federal levels.
