Stephen Casey

Stephen Casey is a senior academic advisor for mining, explosives, nuclear and materials science engineering. He has been an S&T employee for seven years.

What do you most enjoy about working at Missouri S&T?
The people. As an advisor, I get to be a key part in the students’ S&T experience, and I get to meet lots of interesting people from all over the world. I have learned a lot of cool engineering knowledge from the students and professors I work with.

What is your proudest accomplishment while working here?
Continuing my own education. Completing my bachelor’s degree in business and management systems through the business and information technology department and being accepted into a graduate certificate program through the psychological science department.

What is one piece of advice you would give to a new CEC staff member?
Don’t be afraid to ask other staff members for help. Use these moments to build your network here on campus.

What advice would you have for a struggling student?
Don’t be afraid to ask for help. S&T has numerous departments and programs to help students with their personal and educational needs.

What is something people may be surprised to learn about you?
I am a huge railroad fan. I have lots of memorabilia, books and models of my favorite railroad — the Missouri Pacific Railroad. Three generations of my family worked for this railroad.

If you could have any superpower, what would it be and why?
The ability to fly. I could go wherever I wanted by flying there.
