Emily King O’Donnell recently joined Missouri S&T as the newest member of the proposal development unit. Operating under the vice chancellor for research and innovation, the unit provides support and expertise in proposal development and faculty professional development for securing externally sponsored research funding.

“I am thrilled to welcome Emily to our dynamic team,” says Maria Shaub, lead proposal developer for the unit. “This position is essential to enhancing the services we provide faculty members here at Missouri S&T, and Emily will no doubt make a significant impact in advancing our mission to be a driving force for expanding external funding for transformative research.”

O’Donnell earned a bachelor’s degree in English and nonprofit leadership from William Jewell College in 2023. She began grant writing during her senior year during an internship at Encore Institute for Social Impact. She was involved in various groups, including the board of Historic Downtown Liberty, the Cardinal Sound drumline, the Liberty Symphony Orchestra, the Association for Animal Rights, the Nonprofit Leadership Association, and the Slavery, Memory and Justice Project at Jewell. O’Donnell grew up in Kansas City, Missouri.

“Although the Missouri S&T research landscape is different from my humanities and nonprofit background at a small liberal arts college in Kansas City, I am thrilled to be in a position where I can support those devoted to their studies,” says O’Donnell. “I look forward to meeting and assisting our early career faculty in their endeavors to achieve funding and build their foundations as researchers.”

As a proposal developer, O’Donnell provides detailed solicitation analysis, project management of the proposal process, narrative development guidance and editing services. Early career faculty members can learn more about proposal development services or request O’Donnell’s assistance on the proposal development support website.
