Dr. John McManus, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history and political science, published an opinion piece about the Army in the Pacific in The Diplomat, a defense and security journal. He wrote the letter at the request of General Charles Flynn, commander of the U.S. Army Forces in the Pacific, with the hope that this history lesson from an expert in the field will help influence the decision-making of the new incoming Army chief of staff and other defense policy leaders. The article, titled “Why the Army Matters in the Indo-Pacific,” is posted on The Diplomat website.
