Dr. Petra DeWitt, associate professor of history and political science, published “Zwischen Dallas und New York: A West German’s Encounter with the United States Before Moving to East Germany” in Yearbook of German-American Studies. It is an article about the infamous Ingrid Deich, a former S&T sociology professor and East German spy.
In addition to examining Deich’s mysterious disappearance from S&T, Dewitt analyzes one of her subsequent publications and reveals the author’s view of the United States including her assessment of U.S. politics, gender and racial inequality, and the media. Dewitt’s article is available on the bookshelves in the history and political science office in the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.
