Effective Monday, Aug. 14, Havener Center operations will move from student affairs into a new, more broadly focused department called campus events and hospitality management in the Finance and Operations division. Brittany Thompson, manager of outreach and engagement for the Kummer Institute, has been named director of this new department.
The department will be responsible for the operations of the Havener Center and will coordinate and manage a diverse range of events in primary campus venues, including the Havener Center, the Innovation Lab, the Welcome Center and outdoor spaces, ensuring seamless logistics and successful events. Thompson will begin work in her new role Monday, Aug. 14.
At the Kummer Institute, Thompson is responsible for planning and executing all institute events. She brings a wealth of experience in higher education, event planning and partnership building. Her experience includes working for Scenic Rivers Area Health Education Center, a federally funded non-profit in Wisconsin, from 2018 to 2022. During this time, Thompson organized recruiting events with regional universities to exceed student recruitment and retention goals. She also led the nationally recognized Wisconsin Express program and strengthened relationships within the health care industry.
Thompson holds an MBA from Louisiana State University Shreveport, a bachelor’s degree in public administration from Texas State University and a graduate certificate in management and leadership from Missouri S&T.
