Dr. Steve E. Watkins, professor of electrical and computer engineering, received the 2023 Meritorious Service Award from the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE) Electrical and Computer Engineering Division for significant, long-term service to the division and the engineering education community. The award was presented at the 2023 Annual Conference of the ASEE on June 2 in Baltimore.

Watkins has served the division as a member of the officer chain, having completed his term as division chair in 2019-20, successfully guiding the division through their first virtual conference. He has also served on the ASEE board of directors as the zone III chair and has been the Midwest section chair. He was awarded the Midwest Section Best Paper Award and the Outstanding Service Award. He has served the Missouri S&T community as the ASEE campus representative since 2005. 

As the IEEE Education Society’s vice president of educational activities, Watson helped initiate the Teaching Excellence Hub and was a president of IEEE-Eta Kappa Nu, the ECE honor society.
