Over the past year, the Student Design and Experiential Learning Center added two new design teams, the Biomedical Engineering Design Team and the Sustainable Engineering Design Team. While new design teams are blooming, Engineers Without Borders traveled for the first time since the pandemic and the Steel Bridge Design Team will be bringing the competition to S&T in the spring of 2024.
In its first year of existence, the Biomedical Engineering design team placed first out of 90 teams in Healthcare Innovation at the Kansas City Regnier Venture Creation Challenge hosted at the University of Missouri-Kansas City. The Sustainable Engineering design team intends to develop an entrepreneurial approach using innovation and business skills to ensure that all people thrive in a sustainable world.
Engineers Without Borders traveled for the first time since the pandemic, returning to Ecuador and Bolivia to reconnect with their communities and gather data for the next stages of their projects. In the coming year, all teams will prepare for travel by working on new designs, including water distribution and sanitation projects.
Once again, the Steel Bridge Design Team ended its season on top. The team placed first at regionals and will bring the competition back home next year as Missouri S&T will host the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE) Regional Symposium in spring 2024. The event traditionally includes six competitions, two of which S&T is very familiar with: Steel Bridge and Concrete Canoe. In conjunction with S&T’s chapter of ASCE and Missouri State University, we welcome all to attend, come lend your support and cheer on the Miners.
