During the 2022-23 academic year, the S&T Advising Center saw changes in staff, including new advisors and promotions. Advisors continue to excel in their area as many earned certification in advising to better serve students or shared knowledge with other advisors at events like the UM System Advising Summit.
The S&T Advising Center hired three new advisors over the last academic year. Desiree Lim started in November 2022, Kyle Cox started in January 2023 and Brittany Smith started in January 2023. Jill Sertell was promoted to senior academic advisor. She assists Amy McMillen, the Advising Center director, with management and coordination of operations.
A few other notable accomplishments include staff certifications, delivering presentations and the relaunch of the advising series workshops. Striving for excellence in student service, McMillen, Sertell, Machaelie Hennington, Smith, Cox, Lim and Tera Humphrey became certified appreciative advisors through Florida Atlantic University. Hennington presented “Struggling High Achieving Students: Academic Strategies to Build Success” at the 2022-23 UM System Advising Summit in February 2023. Finally, the Advising Center plans to bring back advising series workshops for the 2023-24 academic year, offering one advising workshop each semester.
