Missouri S&T students from Turkey and the S&T International Students Club are appealing to the campus community to donate to relief organizations involved in humanitarian efforts following the recent devastating earthquakes in Turkey and Syria.
On Monday, Feb. 20, the International Students Club will hold a “Walk for Syria and Turkey” to raise awareness of the humanitarian crisis and show the support of the university community. In addition, S&T students from Turkey will share information with the S&T community about humanitarian efforts at tables in the Havener Center and Curtis Laws Wilson Library.
“There are no words to describe how deeply saddened we are,” says Emin Fatih Ozdem, a master’s degree student in nuclear engineering from Ankara, Turkey.
The death toll from the earthquakes has surpassed 46,000 across Turkey and Syria, and millions are either without shelter or in temporary shelters.
The Walk for Syria and Turkey will begin at 4 p.m. Monday, Feb. 20, at the Havener Center. The campus community is encouraged to participate.
In addition, students will staff a table at the following times and locations:
