Dr. Vadym Mochalin, associate professor of chemistry and materials science and engineering, led an international group of experts in MXenes from the United States, Chile and Italy to publish an invited perspective article “Perspectives of 2D MXene Tribology.” In the article, published in Advanced Materials, Mochalin and his co-authors cover significant achievements in the emerging area of tribology of 2D transition metal carbides/nitrides/carbonitrides/oxycarbides (collectively known as MXenes) and provide expert opinion on future development of MXenes for tribology and wear protection.

With their discovery of MXene superlubricity at the macro-scale, Mochalin’s group at S&T is one of the first in the world to initiate research on tribological applications of MXenes.
