Only three days in and already nearly 150,000 steps have been logged in the Leach Theatre step challenge by more than 20 walkers. Want to join in? It’s not too late to get started and you can help us reach a million steps.
The hours of the challenge are 11:30 a.m.-1:30 p.m. every Tuesday and Thursday through Thursday, Feb. 23. During this time, Leach Theatre’s 180-step auditorium and lobby will be open. The staff will crank up the music and lights so challenge takers can exercise indoors while it’s cold outdoors.
As an incentive to get moving during the first two weeks, walkers can earn a free ticket to the Feb. 3 performance of Brian Owens and The Mighty Pines for every 4,000 steps walked. However, these steps will not count toward the 15,000 steps necessary to win a free ticket to one of the remaining Campus Performing Arts Series shows:
Aquila Theatre: Pride and Prejudice on Feb. 25 or The Kay Brothers on March 10.
To participate in the step challenge, check in with your Miner ID card and your step counter at the Box Office at any time between 11:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m. Step counters can include pedometers, wearable fitness trackers such as FitBits and phone apps.
Sign in with your starting step count and then sign out with your ending step count. The challenge route includes the steps, walkways, and aisles of the Leach auditorium, and steps and walkways on both floors of the lobby of Castleman Hall.
Ticket prizes are limited to Missouri S&T faculty, staff and students.
