Sherman named project manager

Abigayle (Abbie) Sherman, formerly executive assistant to Dr. Kamal Khayat, interim vice chancellor for research and innovation, was recently named project manager for the proposal development unit.

“This position is essential to growing the research enterprise here at S&T,” says Dr. Khayat. “Abbie brings not only project management skills but also a wealth of institutional knowledge and great relationships across campus. We are thrilled her unique skillset will be supporting our principal investigators and accelerating our progress to Carnegie R1 status.”

Sherman is the first project manager for the unit and fills a role that was recently added to support the development of large, strategic or complex proposals and resulting awards.

“I have worked at S&T for over 20 years, working in various roles related to research support. I specialize in project management with prior experience in proposal development,” Sherman says. “I enjoy working in an academic setting and look forward to assisting our faculty reach new heights.”

Sherman joined S&T in 2001 and has served as a program and project coordinator for the Center for Infrastructure Engineering. She is a Missouri native and earned a bachelor’s degree in business administration from Webster University in St. Louis. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her son, as well as hiking and backpacking.
