Dr. Rainer Glaser, interim vice provost for graduate education and professor of chemistry, and a team of researchers recently published an article in ChemPlusChem, titled “Perfect Polar Alignment of Parallel Beloamphiphile Monolayers: Synthesis, Characterization, and Crystal Architectures of Unsymmetrical Phenoxy-Substituted Acetophenone Azines.” The article was featured on the cover of the December issue and a professional video was produced to optimize outreach to the global optics community.
The research presented in the article studies the macroscopic polarity in organic crystals and perfect polar alignment. The research team showed, that by rational design of the organic molecules, it is possible to produce a series of such materials. This research could build on this rational design to prepare more stable parallel-aligned organic molecular crystals with improved optical properties and crystallization behavior.
