Dr. Rainer Glaser, professor of chemistry and interim vice provost for graduate education, and his team of researchers published a paper in ACS Omega, which builds on earlier work published in AIP Advances. Detailed structural analysis of the parent diphenylalanine crystal structure suggested that fluorination would enhance the second harmonic generation signal of the diphenylalanine nanomaterials, and the success of this design was demonstrated in the team’s previous study.

Results of this project were presented at regional and national American Chemical Society conferences. The ACS Omega publication is part of the recent doctoral dissertation by Kaidi Yang, a 2022 Ph.D. graduate in chemistry.

Other authors include:

  • Dr. Suchi Guha, a physics professor at the University of Missouri-Columbia.
  • Dr. Fabio Gallazzi, research associate professor of chemistry at MU.
  • Christina Arens, former undergraduate researcher in Glaser’s group and May 2022 S&T alumna.
