The Solar Village living laboratories have three houses available for rent starting in spring 2023. The houses are comfortable, close to campus and mostly furnished, except for beds. Designed by S&T students for the Solar Decathlon in 2005, 2007 and 2015, the houses are used as living laboratories for research, outreach and education in sustainable construction methods, solar energy and energy storage.

Preference will be given to undergraduate students looking for a long-term rental and who have an interest in environmental and sustainable living or renewable energy. The houses are also available to graduate students and visiting scholars. The houses must be leased for at least three months to a year at a time with possibility to renew the lease for up to four years.

To learn more about the houses, visit cree.mst.edu/laboratories/ and click on Solar Village and Eco-Village.

To learn more about renting or visiting one of the houses, please contact Stephane Menand, director of solar villages and microgrids for the Center for Research in Energy and Environment, at menands@mst.edu.

Students should make sure they qualify for living in off-campus housing. To learn more about minimum requirements to live in non-approved campus housing, please visit the residential life website.
