Collin McClain, associate staff engineer at Johns Hopkins University, give a presentation about the Johns Hopkins University Applied Physics Laboratory (APL) 9-10 a.m. Friday, Sept. 23, in Room G5 of the Humanities and Social Sciences Building.

McClain’s research focuses on extreme environments and his efforts involve developing and additively manufacturing ceramics for high-temperature applications, ranging from infrared and radio frequency apertures to ultrahigh-temperature ceramic coatings. His additional research activities target the Arctic, with applications including new structural materials and emergency energy sources.

APL is the largest Department of Defense-sponsored University Affiliated Research Center (UARC) in the nation.
