The Solar Village living laboratories have three houses available for rent by students and visiting professors starting in fall 2022. The houses are one bedroom and are mostly furnished. Designed by Missouri S&T students for the Solar Decathlon in 2005, 2007 and 2013, the houses are used as living laboratories for research, outreach and education in sustainable construction methods, solar energy and energy storage.
Most of the electricity required is provided by photovoltaic panels and their own microgrids. The houses are affordable, comfortable, and located close to campus.
To learn more about the houses, visit cree.mst.edu/laboratories/ and click on Solar Village and Eco-Village.
To learn more about renting or visiting one of the houses, contact Stephane Menand, director for solar villages and microgrids of the Center for Research in Energy and Environment, at menands@mst.edu or 573-341-6088.
Students should make sure they qualify for living in off-campus housing. To learn more about minimum requirements to live in non-approved campus housing, please visit the residential life website.
