Dr. Richard Brow, interim deputy provost for academic excellence, has accepted a one-year appointment as special assistant to the provost for academics effective Sept. 1. His current position will be eliminated and on Sept. 1, 2023, Brow will return to his full-time primary appointment as Curators’ Distinguished Professor of ceramic engineering.

As special assistant to the provost for academics, Brow will work to establish and grow interdisciplinary and inter-institutional programs, coordinate reviews of existing academic programs, and make recommendations regarding the future of programs. Brow also will evaluate interdisciplinary research needs and priorities for the campus including BioX, support for the construction industry, and innovation and entrepreneurship, and will prioritize and develop new degree programs.

Brow joined Missouri S&T in 1998 and has served as the interim deputy provost since July 2019. Previously, he served as interim vice provost and dean of the College of Engineering and Computing from July 2016 through August 2017. He served as chair of ceramic engineering from 2001 to 2004. When that department and metallurgical engineering were combined in 2005 to form the materials science and engineering department (MSE), he served as chair of that department through 2006. He then served as interim chair of MSE from November 2015 through February 2016. Brow was named Curators’ Distinguished Professor in 2004.
