Kummer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Doctoral Fellows announced

The fall 2022 Kummer Innovation and Entrepreneurship Doctoral Fellows and their faculty advisors have been announced by the Kummer Institute for Student Success, Research and Economic Development.

The fellowships are one of several initiatives established through the $300 million gift made by June and Fred Kummer in 2020. The program is designed to encourage innovative-minded students to pursue doctoral degrees at S&T to strengthen applied research, technological innovation, and economic development.

The 2022 fellows and their advisors are:

  • Ademola Adesokan, Ph.D. fellow in computer science. Faculty advisor: Dr. Sanjay Madria, Curators’ Distinguished Professor and associate chair for research of computer science
  • Mohammad Hossein Afsharmovahed, Ph.D. fellow in civil engineering. Faculty advisor: Dr. Genda Chen, Robert W. Abbett Distinguished Professor of civil engineering
  • Mahmuda Akter, Ph.D. fellow in computer science. Faculty advisor: Dr. Sajal Das, Daniel St. Clair Endowed Chair and professor of computer science
  • Kolawole Arowoogun, Ph.D. fellow in geological engineering. Faculty advisors: Dr. Katherine Grote, associate professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering, and Dr. Jeffery Cawlfield, professor and interim chair of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering
  • Bahaa Chammout, Ph.D. fellow in civil engineering. Faculty advisor: Dr. Islam El-adaway, Hurst/McCarthy Professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering
  • Prithbey Dey, Ph.D. fellow in systems engineering. Faculty advisor: Dr. Jinling Liu, assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering and biological sciences
  • Rachel Dzieran, Ph.D. fellow in systems engineering. Faculty advisor: Dr. Robert Marley, Robert B. Koplar Professor of engineering management and systems engineering
  • Effat Eskandari, Ph.D. fellow in geological engineering. Faculty advisor: Dr. Katherine Grote, associate professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering

  • Jacob Hauck, Ph.D. fellow in mathematics. Faculty advisor: Dr. Jason Murphy, assistant professor of mathematics and statistics
  • Ranjit Joy, Ph.D. fellow in mechanical engineering. Faculty advisor: Dr. Frank Liou, Michael and Joyce Bytnar Professor of mechanical engineering
