Leticia Dos Santos Ferreira, left, a graduate student at Missouri S&T works with Grayson Mejia, a student from Oakwood University that is part of the 2021 Summer Engineering Research Academy (SERA).

The Summer Engineering Research Academy (SERA) is seeking faculty to serve as summer research advisors for the 2022 SERA session. The SERA program, funded through S&T’s College of Engineering and Computing, will host up to 20 rising juniors and seniors from historically black colleges and universities (HBCUs) throughout the United States. The students are offered an eight-week stipend (June 3-July 29) and housing at Missouri S&T while they participate in the program. SERA is intended to expose potential students to the many research experiences Missouri S&T offers while also providing networking, team building, and personal and professional development opportunities. SERA students will be seeking a STEM degree from their home university, have indicated interest in attending graduate school at Missouri S&T in engineering or computing, and have a minimum GPA of 3.0.

The SERA program is an opportunity for faculty to recruit graduate students and promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in their research. If you are interested in being a faculty advisor for one of the SERA students, please contact Dr. Phillip Mulligan, SERA program director, at pmulligan@mst.edu or Dr. David Lipke, assistant professor of materials science and engineering, at lipke@mst.edu for more information.
