Major General Samuel C. Mahaney has won the 2020 Missouri Historical Review Article Award for his article, “’Every Day I Like Farming Better’: Ulysses S. Grant and His Experience as a Farmer in Missouri.” This award is presented annually to the author of the article best contributing to an understanding of Missouri history published each year in the quarterly journal. A panel of judges appointed by the executive director selected Mahaney because he exposed the false mythology that surrounded Grants years farming in Missouri (1855-1858).
Mahaney is a 1985 graduate in history from S&T and is retired from the United States Air Force.
