Cathy Tipton, director of recruitment and admissions for Missouri S&T since October 2020, has filed for the public office of Phelps County treasurer and has resigned from S&T, in accordance with the University of Missouri System’s collected rules and regulations. The UM System’s CRR 330.050 requires any university employee seeking a full-time public office to resign or take a leave of absence from their university position.
A member of the S&T admissions staff since January 2004, Tipton served as interim director from July 2019 until her appointment as director in October 2020. She led the admissions staff, which is responsible for undergraduate admissions, including the recruitment of freshmen and transfer students, and the S&T visitor center in Parker Hall.
“Cathy led the admissions team through the worst pandemic, a period when many institutions saw enrollment declines and we saw a 7% growth in first-time college students. She and her team have worked tirelessly with many internal and external stakeholders to get us to where we are today,” says Shobi Sivadasan, vice provost of enrollment management. “Cathy has graciously agreed to volunteer her time to help with a smooth transition. We will continue the work she led so well and will invite her back to campus in the summer to celebrate our successful recruitment cycle.”
Prior to becoming acting director in 2019, Tipton led the admissions team’s efforts in first-year recruitment from 2008 to 2019, first as assistant director, then as associate director. She joined S&T in January 2004 as an admissions counselor.
