Dr. Yang Wang, assistant professor of civil, architectural, and environmental engineering, and his graduate student, Weiching Hao, co-authored a paper that was published by Nature Scientific Reports.

The paper, titled “Durable nanocomposite face masks with high particulate filtration and rapid inactivation of coronaviruses,” outlines the effectiveness of zinc-oxide nanocomposite face masks in neutralizing the virus that causes COVID-19.

Wang and Hao are working with researchers at the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities and Claros Technologies, an advanced materials company located in St. Paul, Minnesota. Wang and Hao tested dozens of masks in the Particle Measurement and Technology Laboratory at S&T as part of the research project.
