Burken to lead ASCE council

Dr. Joel Burken, chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering has been elected chair of the Department Heads’ Coordinating Council for the 170,000-member American Society of Civil Engineers. The council covers civil, architectural and construction engineering department heads in the U.S. and abroad.
Burken joined the S&T faculty in 1997 and helped establish Missouri S&T’s bachelor’s program in environmental engineering in 2002. He was named chair of civil, architectural and environmental engineering in July 2016 after serving as interim for several months.
