Updates for the S&T community
Barbara Ruth Lay Patterson, former lecturer and assistant visiting professor in biological sciences, died Oct. 8. She was 82.
A 1957 graduate of Rolla High School, Patterson earned bachelor of science and master of science degrees in chemistry from what was then the Missouri School of Mines, in 1961 and 1963, respectively. She earned a Ph.D. in chemistry from S&T in 1985 and taught bioscience from 1990 until her retirement in 2002.
She is survived by grandchildren, children, a sister and by her husband, Dr. Gary K. Patterson, professor emeritus in chemical and biochemical engineering, who taught at S&T from 1966 to 2002.
A memorial service was held Oct. 23 at the Null and Son Funeral Home in Rolla.
