Smith receives early career award

Dr. Ryan Smith, assistant professor of geosciences and geological and petroleum engineering, has won the American Geophysical Union (AGU) Early Career Award for Near-Surface Geophysics. Individuals are selected as section honorees based on their meritorious work or service toward the advancement and promotion of discovery and solution science.

Smith joined S&T’s faculty in 2018 after earning a Ph.D. in geophysics from Stanford University. He holds a bachelor’s degree in geology from Brigham Young University in Provo, Utah.

AGU was established in 1919 by the National Research Council and operated as an unincorporated affiliate of the National Academy of Sciences for more than 50 years before it was independently incorporated in 1972.
