Missouri S&T offers a wide variety of learning opportunities through youth programs and is committed to ensuring a safe environment for all participating minors. Applicable youth programs throughout the University of Missouri System, both on-site and online, will comply with the Protections of Minors policy and its related requirements. The policy became effective in April. Requirements for applicable youth programs include:

  1. Submitting program in advance to the UM System Youth Program Registry
  2. Screening requirements for adults staffing the program
  3. Training or orientation requirements for program staff and youth participants
  4. Certain standard forms, including a notice to parents and guardians.

Wondering if the policy applies to your program? For most youth programs, determining if the policy applies can be determined through three questions. See this handout with a flowchart for details.

Youth program coordinators should visit the UM System Protection of Minors webpage for additional information, including program registration, training and screening requirements, frequently asked questions, and full policy provisions. Program coordinators can also access the youth program registry portal, a full-service tool for submitting an upcoming youth program, initiating screening, and organizing trainings and orientations.

Live and on-demand learning opportunities are available to learn more about the policy, requirements and registration process, and to ask questions. Thank you for sharing in the commitment to provide the best and safest possible experience for youth programs hosted or sponsored by the university.
