Student message: COVID vaccination goal

Student leaders from nine S&T organizations sent the following message to all students on May 26:

Students,

On May 17, the campus updated COVID-19 guidelines in response to new guidance from the CDC. The message presents a feeling of hope and optimism for the Fall as we take strides to reintroduce some campus traditions and take steps to move more freely amongst one another. The campus goal to help with those freedoms is to achieve a vaccination rate amongst students of 85% or greater.

Student leaders and campus administration have been engaging in conversations about how we open in Fall 2021 and the best means for the campus to achieve its goal of a safe, healthy Fall with minimal risk to our students, faculty, staff and visitors. Participants in this planning include representatives from Student Affairs, Student Health and presidents and leaders of:

  • Associated Students of the University of Missouri
  • Council of Graduate Students
  • Interfraternity Council and Panhellenic Council
  • International Students Club
  • Residence Hall Association
  • Society of Women Engineers
  • Student Athlete Advisory Council
  • Student Council
  • St. Pat’s Board
  • Student Union Board

Collectively, we’ve identified a goal of operating with the greatest amount of freedom possible within the campus for Fall. That would mean sports events, comedy shows, socials, symposia, and our traditional events all return! In order to accomplish this goal, we have set a target of 85% of the student body vaccinated for Fall enrollment. In order for your vaccination to be counted, it must be reported via mst.studenthealthportal.com.

Leaders from the groups mentioned are going to send weekly updates which will include information about the activities we look forward to having return, vaccine facts and locations where you may find the vaccine. In addition, we’ll update the campus guidance as it continues to change and introduce freedoms. We encourage you to follow Student Involvement on Instagram (@sandtinvolvement), along with the organizations noted below for ongoing updates! During the week of July 5, we’ll issue our first progress report regarding the campus goal.

Collectively, we have great hope for the next semester, and look forward to all the ways we can ensure our experience is a positive one, especially as we redefine what it means to be a Miner!
