Dr. Daniel B. Oerther, professor of environmental health engineering, has been elected deputy chair of the Chartered Institute of Environmental Health (CIEH) in the United Kingdom. He will serve a three-year term through December 2023.

Founded in 1883, and with more than 8,000 global members, the institute’s mission is “safer, cleaner and healthier environments for the benefit of all.” The leaders include an elected chair, an elected deputy chair of the Board of Trustees and an appointed president and several invited honorary vice presidents. Oerther has served as a trustee of the institute since January 2020. In 2018, he was elected a fellow, and in 2018 he received the Best Innovative Environmental Health Solution Award for his work to eliminate childhood stunting in Guatemala.
