Chemical Engineering Progress, a publication of the American Institute for Chemical Engineers (AIChE), published a paper by Dr. Muthanna Al-Dahhan, Richard Bausell and Charles Lyon in December 2020. The paper is titled “Improving Soft Skills Through Mentorship.”
The paper focuses on the importance of mentoring students in communication, leadership, conflict resolution and other soft skills that are critical in the workplace. The authors state that alumni and student mentoring programs can add significant value for student mentees, mentors, industry and universities.
Al-Dahhan is a Curator’s Distinguished Professor and CEC Distinguished Professor of chemical and biochemical engineering and a fellow of the AIChE. Bausell earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering from S&T in 1970 and has retired as vice president of pipeline and power for URS Corp. Lyon earned a bachelor’s degree in chemical engineering in 1984 and a master’s degree in engineering management in 1991, both from S&T. He is the business director for the Americans and Asia at Prefere Melamines. Bausell and Lyon are members of S&T’s Academy of Chemical Engineers.
