Dr. Xiong Zhang, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, was nominated to serve as chair of the Geo-Institute Shallow Foundation Committee for the American Society of Civil Engineers (ASCE). Additionally, Zhang was invited to serve as associate editor of the association’s Journal of Cold Regions Engineering.
The Shallow Foundation Committee provides leadership in applying engineering principles related to the design, construction and maintenance of shallow foundations. The committee works with other ASCE committees and professional societies to improve and expand the understanding of shallow foundations.
The Journal of Cold Regions Engineering is a leading peer-reviewed scientific journal. Established in 1987, the journal’s topics include ice engineering, ice force, construction on permafrost and seasonal frost, cold weather construction, environmental quality and engineering in cold regions, snow and ice control, cold regions materials, and surveying and planning in cold regions.
