Sarangapani named interim ISC director

Dr. Costas Tsatsoulis, vice chancellor for research, announces that Dr. Jagannathan “Jag” Sarangapani has been named as the new interim director of the Intelligent Systems Center (ISC).

He succeeds Dr. Donald Wunsch, the Mary Finley Missouri Distinguished Professor of Electrical and Computer Engineering, who served as interim director since 2020. Wunsch will step down on Monday, March 1, to take a position at the National Science Foundation.

Sarangapani is the Rutledge-Emerson Professor in Electrical Engineering. His research interests include sensors, learning and control, cyber-physical systems and security, resilience and prognostics, and autonomous systems and robotics. He joined S&T in 2001 and also serves as director of the Embedded Systems and Networking Laboratory. He has supervised over 30 doctoral students and has received many awards, including the National Science Foundation’s CAREER Award. Sarangapani’s research has been funded by the Air Force Office of Scientific Research, Army Research Laboratory, NSF and Office of Naval Research.
