Faculty and students in S&T’s civil, architectural and environmental engineering department, presented their research at the Transportation Research Board’s 100th annual meeting, which was held virtually in January.

Research topics included innovative sustainable materials, advanced testing techniques for geo-material characterization, and intelligent transportation engineering. Participating faculty included Dr. Jenny Liu, professor; Dr. Xiong Zhang, professor; and Xianbiao Hu, assistant professor.

Some presentations included:

  • “Feasibility Study on Novel Fire-Resistant Coating Materials” presented by Anyou Zhu, Hanli Wu and Jenny Liu on Jan. 29
  • “A Table Method for Coded Target Decoding with Application To 3-D Reconstruction of Soil Samples During Triaxial Testing” presented by Xiaolong Xia, Xiong Zhang, Sara Fayek and Zhaozheng Yin on Jan. 26
  • “A Consistent 3-D Elasto-plastic Model to Study Unsaturated Soil Behavior with Considerations of Coupled Hydro-Mechanical Hysteresis” presented by Beshoy Riad and Xiong Zhang on Jan. 25
  • “A Critical Assessment of Soil Disturbances During Triaxial Testing Using a Photogrammetry-Based Method” presented by Sara Fayek and Xiong Zhang on Jan. 26
  • “Mining Route Set Distribution Range and Affecting Factor Threshold Based on GPS Data” presented by Yajuan Deng, Sanghuiyu Yan, Peng Zhang and Xianbiao Hu on Jan. 26. This paper has also been accepted for publication by Transportation Research Record.
