Dr. Casey Canfield, an assistant professor of engineering management and systems engineering, has been named to a committee of the National Academies of Sciences, Engineering and Medicine. The committee convened in January to review and assess NASA’s processes for long-term risk assessment and management for missions with respect to cancer due to exposure to space radiation.

Based on the review of NASA’s proposed strategies, the committee will make recommendations to NASA for assessing and managing the processes for addressing space radiation risk for astronauts.

The National Academies of Sciences, Engineering, and Medicine provide objective advice to inform policy with evidence and confront challenging issues to benefit society.
