The City of Rolla, in partnership with Missouri S&T, will construct a pedestrian bridge  on Route E (University Drive) over Interstate-44, near Exit 185 in Rolla. There will be several closures during construction.

Plans are subject to change, depending on weather. Plans currently include:

  • By approximately 7 p.m. Monday, Jan. 11, construction crews are tentatively planning to adjust traffic on I-44 to a single lane (both eastbound and westbound) to aid in the offloading of counterweight trailers.
  • At approximately 6 p.m. Tuesday, Jan. 12, bridge installation is scheduled to begin with closure of the University Drive overpass, followed by one-lane traffic on I-44 (eastbound and westbound) beginning at 8 p.m. and closure of I-44 with a detour at 9 p.m.
  • I-44 will reopen at 5 a.m. Wednesday, Jan. 13.
  • In the event of inclement weather, the installation planned for Jan. 12 will be pushed to Jan. 13 or Jan. 14.

Signs are in place to alert motorists of the upcoming closures. Please plan extra travel time, slow down and watch for crews in work zones. The City of Rolla will have signs in place to detour motorists around the University Drive overpass closure.

This work is weather permitting and could be delayed. For more information about this work or other transportation-related matters, visit modot.org/central.
