Pandemic literature course planned this spring

A new one-time course on pandemic literature will be offered this spring as History/English/ALP 3001: Pandemic Literature. It will be taught by Dr. Marie Lathers, the Weiner Distinguished Visiting Professor of the Humanities, 2-2:50 p.m. Monday, Wednesday and Friday.

Students will read fiction about plagues and pandemics written by Daniel Defoe, Edgar Allan Poe, Jack London, Katherine Anne Porter, Albert Camus, Geraldine Brooks, Stewart O’Nan, and Colson Whitehead. Join the class to discuss how historical and imaginary pandemics have been described in stories.
