The program for Dr. John C. McManus’ national book award of the seventh annual Gilder Lehrman Prize for Military History can now be viewed online.
McManus received the award from the Gilder Lehrman Institute of American History and a $50,000 prize for his book titled Fire and Fortitude: The US Army in the Pacific War, 1941-1943. Each year the award recognizes the best book on military history in the English-speaking world based on its scholarship, its contribution to the literature, and its appeal to both a general and an academic audience.
A formal award program is normally held at the New-York Historical Society, but this year it was held online due to the pandemic. The program includes a 30-minute conversation about the book between McManus and Andrew Roberts, British historian and journalist and chair of the prize committee.
