Dr. Kwame Awuah-Offei, director of mining and explosives engineering, and Dr. Michael Moats, associate professor of metallurgical engineering, co-authored a policy brief for the T-20, which is the policy think-tank for the G-20 summits. They worked with Dr. Michelle Michot Foss, a colleague from the Baker Institute for Public Policy at Rice University in Houston, Texas.

The brief, titled “Framing Energy and Minerals for Future Pathways,” addresses the role of non-fuel minerals in the global economy overall, but specifically in the energy sector, as well as alternative energy sources and technologies. The brief focuses on chemical battery energy storage and presents recommendations for G20 discussions and actions on battery materials and crucial underlying supply chains for mineral commodities.
