Abstract: Percolating through a good deal of philosophical consideration of the meaning of home is the idea that home is the quintessential place to which someone returns. From this angle, home and homecoming seem inseparable. But how might understandings of home shift when, due to the COVID-19 pandemic, home becomes at worse a place of lockdown and quarantine and at best a place from which a getaway is risky? In this talk, I identify some technologies that seem emblematic of pandemic homelife. Using them as prisms, I explore how they can help to shed light on ways in which time is experienced in such homelife and what home might mean in the future.
All lectures in the series will be held via Zoom and are free and open to the public. For more information, contact the arts, languages, and philosophy department at 573-341-4185 or email alp@mst.edu.
