Learn during lunch about space debris

Dr. William Schonberg will present a talk titled “Heavens, What a Mess! Understanding and Dealing with the Problem of Space Debris” noon-12:30 p.m. Friday, Oct. 23, via Zoom.

Learn where space debris comes from and how much junk is orbiting the earth. Schonberg will also discuss how engineers are building spacecraft that can withstand collisions with space debris and what the prognosis is for improving or worsening the space junk around Earth.

Schonberg is a professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering. He is a registered professional engineer in Missouri and Alabama, and has over 30 years of teaching and research experience in the areas of shock physics, spacecraft protection, hypervelocity impact and penetration mechanics. 

The presentation is part of global learning’s lunch and learn series.
