Interested in learning more about music but don’t have any previous experience? Our courses in Music Understanding and Appreciation or Latin American Music might be just what you’re looking for! Previous music experience isn’t required and you don’t need to know how to read music or play an instrument. Learn more below.

Music 1150: Music Understanding and Appreciation
MW 2-2:50 p.m. Blended course with online instruction on Fridays
A study of the development of music with emphasis on understanding music forms and the role music has played in the various historical periods. No previous music experience or the ability to read music is necessary.

Music 2001: Special Topics – Latin American Music
Online – Asynchronous
Have you ever wondered about salsa music and it’s origins? Do you have questions about the marimba? Do you enjoy popular music by performers like Shakira or Jennifer Lopez? Music of Latin America is a journey through the different styles of Latin American music. Students will discover not only the historical aspects but also the influences on American music. No prior music knowledge is necessary to dig deeper into Latin American music – just a willingness to listen to music.
