VGME has been working hard through the quarantine, and with inspiration from other ensembles of our size and variety have been putting together videos for each of the pieces in our set.

This week we are premiering a Medley, consisting of three ‘Chocobo’ songs from the Final Fantasy series, in continuation of our celebration of the Final Fantasy VII remake, released April 10th and would have coincided with a concert featuring our whole set.

Brass de Chocobo is our opening piece, originating from Final Fantasy X, and was written in a big band/swing jazz style, starting off our piece with an explosive punch, as well as two solos: Reece Watson on the Soprano Saxophone, and Mitchell Skaggs on Muted Trumpet

Cinco de Chocobo comprises the second movement, and was originally written as an homage to The Dave Brubeck Quartet’s “Take Five.” This section features two solos: Helen Temporal on French Horn, and Adam Nissley on Trumpet.

Mambo de Chocobo was a spur-of-the-moment addition to the medley, and a stark contrast to the jazz themes of the previous two songs, featuring a Mallet Percussion and Trumpet lead, creating a very light in tone closure to the piece.
