Are you interested in international films and in contemporary social issues? Do you want to improve your understanding and appreciation of other cultures? Do you want to hone your critical thinking skills? Contemporary French and Francophone Cinema (French 4320/Art 4320) offers just what you need!
In this course, we will explore themes including immigration, love, war, disability, education, and crime as they appear in French and Francophone films from the 1980s through the first decade of 2000s. Our study will span multiple genres (thriller, comedy, drama, and historical fiction). In addition to analyzing the content of each film, we will analyze the context in which it was produced and its critical reception.
If you would like to enroll for credit for a French minor, you should enroll in the French-language section, French 4320. If you would like to take the course in English, you should enroll in Art 4320. Please note that the prerequisite will be waived for those enrolling in Art 4320.
