S&T’s information technology (IT) department recommends
using OpenVPN instead of Anyconnect when connecting to S&T’s campus
network. Here are instructions for Windows and Mac operating systems.
Windows OS
- Go to https://openvpn.mst.edu/.
- Save the OVPN client and configuration files locally.
- Select the Open VPN Client Link for Windows: OpenVPN Connect.to navigate to the OpenVPN client download page and download OPENVPN CONNECT V3 (BETA).
- Run OpenVPN Connect.
- Go through the onboarding tour, close the tour, then select Agree/Okay.
- Select Filetab. Open the .ovpn configuration file downloaded in step 2.
- Provide <username>,or<username>@umsystem.edu (either should work).
- Select “openvpn.mst.edu” profile and provide your password.
Mac/OS
- Go to https://openvpn.mst.edu/.
- Select the Open VPN Client Link for MacOSX: and save locally.
- Download the OpenVPN 3.x:openvpn-mst-edu.ovpn file. Note where the files are downloaded for the next step.
- Locate the openvpn-connect-3.1.0.890_signed.dmg, run and install this application.
- Go through the onboarding tour, close the tour, then select Agree/Okay.
- Select File tab. Open downloaded .ovpn file.
- Provide <username>, or <username@umsystem.edu (either should work).
- Select “openvpn.mst.edu” profile, and provide password.
