In the news: Big Apple, deconstruction, high voltage research, economic win of Super Bowl

- Dr. Gerald Cohen’s research on the phrase “The Big Apple” is covered in The Wall Street Journal’s Jan. 2 “Word on the Street” column. Cohen is a professor of Russian and German, who has served S&T for over 50 years.
- St. Louis Public Radio’s Eli Chen interviewed Dr. John Myers for a story titled “St. Louis Begins Taking Apart Buildings to Salvage Valuable Brick and Lumber,” which aired Jan. 21. Myers is a professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering, and deputy director of the Missouri Center for Transportation Innovation.
- St. Louis Public Radio’s Jonathan Ahl interviewed Dr. Mehdi Ferdowsi for a story titled “New Lab at Missouri S&T Looks to Meet High Voltage Demand,” published Jan. 20. Ferdowsi is a professor of electrical and computer engineering.
- Fresh off a Super Bowl win by the Kansas City Chiefs, the Missouri city should get an economic boost, according to Dr. Michael Davis, interim chair and associate professor of economics at S&T. Before the big game, Davis was interviewed Jan. 27 on Kansas City NPR affiliate KCUR 89.3 and in a Jan. 24 article published by Missourinet.
