Congratulations to 33 S&T faculty members who are being honored with faculty campus awards in 2019 for excellence and achievement in teaching, research and service. An additional 37 faculty members are being recognized with Outstanding Teaching Awards, based on their end-of-course evaluations. The faculty awardees were formally recognized at a Campus Faculty Awards Banquet Thursday, Dec. 5.

The Faculty Excellence Award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated sustained excellence in teaching, research and service. The 2019 Faculty Excellence Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Jie Huang, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering
  • Dr. Patrick Huber, professor of history and political science
  • Dr. Michael Moats, professor of materials science and engineering
  • Dr. Fiona Nah, professor of business and information technology
  • Dr. Yanzhi Zhang, associate professor of mathematics and statistics.

The Faculty Achievement Award recognizes non-tenure-track faculty who have demonstrated sustained excellence in at least one of the following areas: teaching, research or service. The 2019 Faculty Achievement award recipients are:

  • Dr. Yu-Hsien Chiu, associate teaching professor of business and information technology
  • Dr. Victor Khilkevich, associate research professor of electrical and computer engineering
  • Dr. Simon Lekakh, research professor of materials science and engineering
  • Dr. Scott Miller, teaching professor of materials science and engineering
  • Dr. Jill Schmidt, assistant teaching professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering
  • Dr. Eric Showalter, teaching professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering.

  • Dr. Wayne Huebner, professor of materials science and engineering
  • Dr. K. Krishnamurthy, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering
  • Dr. Dan Reardon, associate professor of English and technical communication
  • Dr. Claire Reynolds-Kueny, assistant professor of psychological science
  • Dr. Kate Sheppard, associate professor of history and political science
  • Dr. Yun Seong Song, assistant professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

The Faculty Research Award recognizes faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in research and scholarship. The 2019 Faculty Research Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Xiaoming He, associate professor of mathematics and statistics
  • Dr. Chulsoon Hwang, assistant professor of electrical and computer engineering
  • Dr. Xinhua Liang, associate professor of chemical and biochemical engineering
  • Dr. Jenny Liu, professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering
  • Dr. Hongyan Ma, assistant professor of civil, architectural and environmental engineering
  • Dr. Joseph Newkirk, professor of materials science and engineering
  • Dr. Daniel Shank, assistant professor of psychological science.

The Faculty Service Award recognizes faculty who display exemplary, sustained service to the university and to their profession. The 2019 Faculty Service Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Petra DeWitt, assistant professor of history and political science
  • Dr. Henry Pernicka, professor of mechanical and aerospace engineering.

The Sustained Excellence in Outstanding Teaching Award recognizes faculty members who have received Outstanding Teaching Awards for at least nine out of the last 10 years. The 2018-19 Sustained Excellence in Outstanding Teaching Award recipients are:

  • Dr. Petra DeWitt, assistant professor of history and political science
  • Dr. Greg Hilmas, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of ceramic engineering and chair of materials science and engineering
  • Dr. Irina Ivliyeva, professor of arts, languages, and philosophy
  • Dr. John McManus, Curators’ Distinguished Professor of history and political science
  • Dr. Gary Mueller, associate professor of mining and nuclear engineering
  • Dr. Joe Stanley, professor of electrical and computer engineering
  • Dr. Greg Story, associate professor of physics.

Each awardee listed above will receive a monetary stipend, provided by the endowments of these donors:

  • Forsee Family Engineering Faculty Fund
  • Faculty Excellence Fund – John Stafford Brown
  • Robert Keiser Faculty Award for Teaching, Research and Service
  • Finley Faculty Enhancement
  • Class of 1937 Endowment­.
